BCID is pleased to help our friends at the IDSA NW Chapter promote their upcoming Design Dialogue Conference being held in Seattle May 4th and 5th.

Also of note, BCID Professional Member Jon Winebrenner will be one of the presenters at the conference.

Session Title:
The Attention Deficit Designer
JON WINEBRENNER

Designers around the world have to fight through a cacophony of distractions. From Facebook, to squirrels and everything in between, we all struggle with how to balance the flashing lights around us with the desire to do something great with our life. But what if you have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder? If you have a creative mind, there’s a good chance you are living somewhere within the spectrum defined by ADHD. Winebrenner was diagnosed as having ADHD around his 40th birthday. Although he’s suspected he has it, he’s been fighting it since…well…forever. The Attention Deficit Designer is a talk that hopes to enlighten everyone to the idea that ADHD is not a curse, but merely a part of the human condition.

Conference Theme:

Getting design right is now recognized as essential for business success. Design thinking is equally beneficial in the business world and social domain. This spring IDSA will explore Evolving Design Practice from 5 different angles at the 5 Design Dialogues Conferences held across the US between March 30 and May 6.

This is a great opportunity for you to explore how design practice is evolving to meet expanding demands and take advantage of new opportunities. Network and share ideas with colleagues, business professionals, design educators and students. Learn from subject matter experts, design leaders and visionaries who will enlighten, educate and inspire you as we consider the future of design.

Excerpt from www.common.is:

What John does best is help companies and their people, find the courage and the sense of humor to consider whole new, wrong ways of bringing their stories, ideas, and innovations out into the world. John feels so strongly about the value of thinking wrong that he created a program called Project M that is designed to inspire and educate young designers, writers, photographers, and filmmakers by proving that their work—especially their wrongest thinking—can have a positive and significant impact on the world. Project M has developed projects to help a conservation area in Costa Rica, Micro-financing in Ghana, New Orleans after Katrina, the community of East Baltimore, connecting households to fresh water in Hale County Alabama and addressing the the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Alabama. Most recently, John has partnered with Alex Bogusky and Rob Schuham to form COMMON, a new brand of capitalism that replaces competitive advantage with collaborative advantage. John, Alex and Rob believe that benefiting people, communities, society, the environment and future generations is the new advantage in business. In his career, John has won more than 250 design awards, was nominated for 2 National Design Awards from the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, served on the AIGA National Board of Directors, and teaches at California College of the Arts in San Francisco. The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art has acquired six of his projects and staged a solo exhibition in 2000. In addition, John was awarded the Skandalaris Award for Design Entrepreneurship from Washington University in St. Louis in 2009 and is a member of AGI (Alliance Graphique International).
