The National Capital Commission (NCC) is looking for an Industrial Designer with preferably three years of experience in design.  Exposure to environmental graphic and exhibit design would be an asset.
The NCC is located in Canada’s Capital Region in Ottawa and enjoys the unique mandate to plan, preserve and develop the Capital Region as a source of ‘Pride and Unity’ for Canada.  The successful candidate will be a member of a passionate and dynamic in house design team and will be involved in the design and implementation of various two and three dimensional items, including signage, exhibits, outdoor interpretation, street furniture and, thematic and way-finding signage for festivals.

ACID Open House Invitation–Toronto, June 11, 2007

INTERDESIGN & CONNECTING’07 Open House

On behalf of the Association of Canadian Industrial Designers (ACID), we would like to invite you to an Open House on June 11 (6-8 pm) at the Institute without Boundaries.

We will be presenting information about the World House Interdesign and CONNECTING’07.

The World House Interdesign takes place at George Brown College from June 24-30. Interdesign is an international conference being hosted by the Institute without Boundaries in partnership with the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) an international event marking Icsid’s 50th anniversary celebrations. This week long event will bring students, professionals, faculty in the field of design together from around the world to tackle four local design challenges in the Greater Toronto Region: the Toronto Waterfront, Downsview Park, Mt Dennis region and Town of Port Perry.

Interdesign speakers include:

- Dr. Thomas Homer-Dixon, Director of the Trudeau Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Toronto
- Mr. Bill Moggridge, Congress Chair of Connecting 07 World Design Congress and co-founder of IDEO
- Ms. Leslie Hoffman, Executive Director of the New York based organization Earth Pledge
- Ms. Beatrice Olivastri, CEO of Friends of the Earth Canada
- Mr. Peter Love, Ontario’s first Chief Energy Conservation Officer.

2007 Icsid / CONNECTING’07 World Design Congress – “Connecting to People and to Ideas” will take place in San Francisco from October 17-20. ACID will have a booth at the World Design Congress and a call for entries to participate in the exhibition will be issued soon!

WORLD HOUSE INTERDESIGN–Toronto, June 24 - 30, 2007

WORLD HOUSE INTERDESIGN – Sustainable Housing & Water: Local & Global Challenges
From June 24 to June 30, George Brown College’s Institute without Boundaries (IwB) and the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) will be hosting Interdesign 2007, a leading international design conference bringing together designers, students and educators to collaborate on four design challenges. This year, participants will be sharing ideas and developing concepts for the World House, the Institute’s year-long project on sustainable housing and water usage.

Program Highlights

The World House Interdesign will open on June 24 with an Icsid welcome by Mr. Carlos Hinrichsen, President-Elect, Icsid  and a keynote presentation by Dr. Thomas Homer-Dixon on “Energy, Climate, and Resilient Design”.  Dr. Homer-Dixon is the Director of the Trudeau Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Toronto and author of, The Ingenuity Gap, which received the Governor General’s Award.
On the evening of June 26, there will be a panel discussion on “Shared Responsibility: Sharing Ideas and Innovation” with Ms. Leslie Hoffman, Executive Director of the New York based organization Earth Pledge, Ms. Beatrice Olivastri, CEO of Friends of the Earth Canada and Mr. Peter Love, Ontario’s first Chief Energy Conservation Officer.  
On the evening of June 28, a special presentation with Mr. Bill Moggridge, Congress Chair of Connecting 07 World Design Congress and co-founder of IDEO based in Palo Alto will also be featured.
The closing address will be presented by Professor Dr. Peter Zec, President of Icsid on June 29.

Since 2001, April 26 has been the day where organisations around the world celebrate World Intellectual Property Day.  

Established by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) to “raise awareness of the role of intellectual property in our daily lives, and to celebrate the contribution made by innovators and artists to the development of societies across the globe”, a series of activities and events will be held around the globe highlighting this year’s theme - Encouraging Creativity.

An in-depth understanding of the most common forms of industrial property, including patents and utility models for inventions, industrial designs and trademarks is necessary for designers who seek protection for their own industrial property.

NRC Powder Injection Moulding (PIM) Information Session (Vancouver)

An information session on the multiclient project on the net shaping fabrication technology of metallic parts by Powder Injection Moulding (PIM) will be taking place Friday March 28th, 2007 at the NRC Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation (NRC-IFCI) at 4250 Wesbrook Mall, Vancouver, BC.
