Bill Moggridge Lecture at the Emily Carr Institute

Bill Moggridge will present a public lecture at the Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design 1399 Johnston Street, Granville Island, Vancouver, BC on Thursday, November 8, 2007, at 7pm in the Lecture Hall 301 SB . Bill Moggridge, a British industrial designer, is co-founder of the Silicon Valley-based design firm IDEO, independently ranked by business leaders as one of the most innovative companies in the world. A Royal Designer for Industry, Bill designed the world’s first laptop computer. He pioneered interaction design and is one of the first people to integrate human factors into the design of software and hardware. He has been a trustee of the Design Museum; Visiting Professor in Interaction Design at the Royal College of Art in London, Lecturer in Design at the London Business School and a member of the Steering Committee for the Interaction Design Institute in Ivrea, Italy. He is currently Consulting Associate Professor in the Joint Program in Design at Stanford University. His book Designing Interactions tells the story of how interaction design is transforming our daily lives; it is available from The MIT Press.——————————-

NRC Powder Injection Moulding (PIM) Information Session (Vancouver)

An information session on the multiclient project on the net shaping fabrication technology of metallic parts by Powder Injection Moulding (PIM) will be taking place Friday March 28th, 2007 at the NRC Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation (NRC-IFCI) at 4250 Wesbrook Mall, Vancouver, BC.

The information session will allow you to:

  • Better understand the process and benefits of PIM.
  • Learn more on the unique infrastructure and leading edge equipments available at IMI.

Will work as an integral part of a 10 member multi-disciplinary product development team to conceptualize, problem solve and develop products effectively and efficiently. Willing to travel overseas to liaison with Asian and European manufactures.

Specific Skills
Bachelor´s degree in Industrial Design
2 + years of Industrial Design work experience, with Toy experience a plus

Conceptualization and sketching ability

Strong graphic design skills a plus
Fluency in English and Mandarin
3D Modeling Capability
Good prototyping skills
2D rendering capability: Illustrator and Photoshop

BCID Annual General Meeting - March 5th

As a result of suggestions made last year we will be holding this years AGM in a more social setting rather than in a meeting room. This will allow members to review the necessary business at hand while also enjoy a beverage and some snacks and have a chance to catch up with other members.

The presentation/business portion of the evening will run from 6pm until 7pm and the casual/social portion of the evening will be from 7pm onwards.

BCID Presents : Graham Buksa - Rayne Longboards

Please accept this invitation to attend a BCID sponsored presentation by Graham Buksa of Rayne Longboards Tuesday February 27th 9am - 11:30am at the Emily Carr
Institute.

Graham will be sharing his experiences and insights gained during the process of conceiving his product, an innovative longboard, and founding a company to develop, produce, and market it.

This short workshop will prime attendees in translating their product ideas into viable business terms and provide resources for taking the next steps towards starting a business.

The workshop is free to attend by all BCID members and Emily Carr Industrial Design Students.

Graham Buksa is a graduate of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta and was a winner of the 2005 Small Business BC Business Plan Contest.

Lorenzo Imbesi at the Emily Carr Institute

The ID Department at ECIAD would like to extend an invitation to BCID members to attend a lecture by visiting design professor Lorenzo Imbesi at 10:30am Tuesday November 14. 

The lecture is the kick-off event for a 3 day design charrette Lorenzo will be conducting with the ID program.

Lorenzo teaches Theories of Design and Design Studio and is a researcher and lecturer in the ITACA Department, Section of Arts, Design and New Technologies within the University La Sapienza in Rome Italy.
