Practivism 3 | Design. Harmony out of Chaos.

Vancouver, British Columbia – We live in a fine balance of harmony and chaos. A reality where the most unprecedented challenges face our planet, and in contrast, a tipping point of positive change for our collective future is reaching tidal proportions.

Designers are communicators, makers, shapers, and inventors; with a key insight into systems and an ability to express, we have a unique vantage point in creating harmony in the midst of chaos. And yet, chaos is a key ingredient in pushing us to reshape, reinvent and even rebel. Both harmony and chaos have given way to our best inventions, breakthroughs, and moments of truth as a design community. This year’s Practivism 3 intersects the powerful point between harmony and chaos. Acknowledging that harnessing the fine equilibrium from both sides is the key to our future.

Join the GDC/BC for an evening of dialogue and interaction on how the creative forces of harmony and chaos shape us, and how designers are reshaping the world during these rapidly changing times. An interactive discussion with local thought leaders including Panos Grames (David Suzuki Foundation), Judy Snaydon (Mountain Equipment Co-op), Valerie Elliott (Id2 Communications), and Bruce Haden (Dialog Design) will be moderated by Amanda Gibbs (Director, Museum of Vancouver). The interactive round table discussion will be followed by a keynote presentation by Wendy Jedlicka (President, Jedlicka Design, and author of Sustainable Graphic Design: Tools, Systems and Strategies for Innovative Print Design).

WHEN: Friday Nov 19th, 2010, 6-10pm

WHERE: Museum of Vancouver, 1100 Chestnut Street, Vancouver

TICKETS: $20 Students, $25 Members, $30 Non-Members. Tickets include food and entrance to
MOV exhibit Home Grown: Local Sustainable Food. Cash bar available.
