Industrial Design Accessories Designer… Soft Goods

As a member of the Industrial Design /Accessories team, the Industrial  Designer, Accessories will be responsible for developing product concepts for BlackBerry soft accessories and packaging for accessories and handhelds.

Concepts will be communicated both internally and to vendors through 2D and 3D sketches, and with extensive use of high quality prototypes. Once a design direction has been reached, it is the designers task to bring the design through production, maintaining the quality and design intent at all times. Carry cases and holsters, desk stands would be typical projects.

The Accessories designer will be expected to produce simple elegant design solutions and incorporate innovative smarts and new ways of solving old problems.

Designers with a proven record of driving multiple projects to closure, overseeing all aspects of R&D and manufacturing of textiles and leathers in the field of soft goods or footwear are preferred.

Maintaining attention to detail, both functionally and aesthetically, as well as the ability to quickly grasp and distill highly complex matters are all essential skills in the handheld industry.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

MUST HAVE: Extensive knowledge and experience in soft goods manufacturing or other related areas (like footwear or textile industries)

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or similar degree, along with 2 – 5 years of experience in product design / development 
Ability to quickly grasp and distill highly complex matters, and turn these into simple elegant design solutions 
Excellent presentation skills through Illustrator, Photoshop, Rhino, and Alias
Knowledge of manufacturing processes is essential towards creating manufacturable accessories
Familiarity with textiles, leather, electronics packaging, injection molding, latest trend color/material/finish technologies, in mold decorating (IMD), (IML) and other part decoration technologies
Self-motivated team member with strong interpersonal and problem solving skills
Ability to manage time and meet deadlines of multiple, simultaneous developments while maintaining attention to detail (both functionally and aesthetically)
Ability to quickly grasp and distill highly complex matters
