Starfish Medical - Design Engineer

StarFish Medical http://www.starfishmedical.com/ is expanding and we are looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join our medical device development team.
The successful candidate will work closely with other members of our product development team(including industrial designers, electronics engineers, production engineers, physicists and other specialists) to develop and realize innovative medical products (from initial brief through to production release)
We are looking for:

  • A brilliant design mind with at least 4 years of solid product design engineering experience.
  • A creative engineer with strong ideation abilities and aesthetic sensibilities
  • A team player who is keen to learn from others and share past experience
  • Someone who is diligent, thorough and realistic with an eye for detail and a passion for intelligent design
  • Someone with experience of working within a design engineering consultancy environment

As a key member of our team your role will include:

  • Project and team management
  • Day-to-day client communications
  • Preparing product development proposals and mechanical specifications
  • Participating in new concept brainstorming sessions, and contributing to an ongoing effort to optimize our product development process
  • Working with ID staff to create concept designs that balance innovative engineering design, functional requirements and aesthetic appeal
  • Providing creative engineering solutions, as needed, throughout development process in areas such as mechanism design and new technology development
  • Reviewing concepts in terms manufacturing and cost feasibility
  • Producing detailed, final drawings and specifications
  • Verification and validation of designs (using computerized modelling and/or physical models), proposing of testing methods, test rig design and test result evaluation.

In order to be eligible for this position you will need:

  • To be degree-educated with a recognized Mech. Engineering qualification
  • Have a solid product design engineering background (Whilst a track record in developing medical devices is preferred, suitable candidates might also have experience in bringing FMCG, electronics or telecoms products to market)
  • To demonstrate a strong proficiency in plastic part development from concept to production
  • An appreciation of a range of manufacturing techniques, particularly the design constraints imposed by injection moulding, as well as a sound working knowledge of materials and processes
  • A sound understanding of fundamental physical theories and general engineering principles
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks (solids, surfacing, assembly, detail, etc.) is required
  • Canadian citizenship, valid Canadian work permit/ authorization or NAFTA eligibility
  • Team spirit and a sense of humour
